Long Run #3

Today was my first long run of May and my easiest (and longest!) long run yet. The game plan was to keep my heart rate between 60% and 70% of maximum, no matter how slow I needed to run to do it. I’ve done a lot of reading lately and it seems that this concept is incredibly important for building endurance on long runs. I was able to do a good job, though my heart rate crept up on hills.

The weather was rainy and miserable, but I liked it. It was so peaceful. I just listened to Alan Cross’ Guide to Alternative Rock in one ear and ran until I was done. I didn’t realise how long it would take to cover 8K at such a slow pace, so I only had 25 minutes to drink my protein shake and get ready for work.

My hips are slightly sore but I’m fine other than that. I’ll make sure it goes away before I go for my next run on Tuesday.
